Kitchen unit converter

Cooking measurement converter

Convert common kitchen volume, weight and temperature units without pretending that a cup of every ingredient weighs the same.

Convert a whole ingredient list

Batch recipe unit converter

Paste several ingredient lines. FOOGG changes recognized leading measurements and leaves the rest of each line intact, so you can convert a recipe in one pass instead of one number at a time.

What this cooking converter handles

Choose Volume for US customary cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, fluid ounces, pints and quarts plus milliliters and liters. Choose Weight for grams, kilograms, ounces and pounds. Choose Temperature for Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin.

Common US kitchen volume conversions

MeasurementApproximate metric equivalent
1 US cup236.588 mL
1 US tablespoon14.787 mL
1 US teaspoon4.929 mL
1 US fluid ounce29.574 mL
1 US pint473.176 mL
1 US quart946.353 mL

Why FOOGG does not offer a generic cups-to-grams switch

A cup measures volume; a gram measures mass. One cup of flour, sugar, butter and water do not weigh the same, and packing method changes the result too. A converter that turns any cup into one fixed gram value would be misleading. FOOGG therefore keeps volume and weight separate unless ingredient-specific density data is available.

US cups vs metric cups

This tool labels its cup, tablespoon, teaspoon, fluid ounce, pint and quart values as US customary. A metric cup is commonly 250 mL, so do not silently substitute one standard for the other when following an international recipe.

Conversion standards and precision

FOOGG uses U.S. customary conversion factors for cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, fluid ounces, pints and quarts, and standard avoirdupois factors for ounces and pounds. Batch results are rounded for kitchen readability; use the single-value converter when you want to inspect one conversion more closely. See the methodology and sources for the exact factors used.

Scaling and converting are different jobs

If you need to change a recipe from 4 servings to 7, use the recipe scaler first. Then convert any resulting units here. If one ingredient is limiting the batch, use Scale by One Ingredient.

FAQ

Cooking conversion questions

How many milliliters are in one US cup?

One US customary cup is approximately 236.588 mL. A metric cup is commonly 250 mL, which is why the standard matters.

Can I convert cups directly to grams?

Not generically. Cups measure volume and grams measure mass. You need an ingredient-specific density or a trusted ingredient weight chart.

How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?

Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit value, then multiply by 5/9. The converter does that automatically.
